GTA Online Tips And Tricks

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto Online launched this morning at 7:00AM Eastern time, and despite the game's sometimes rampant server issues, players are already digging in to the massive suite of activities and finding out all the best ways to make money and commit crimes with friends.

The ultimate goal of GTA Online is to amass as much money as humanly possible, and cash it in on sweet rides, nice clothes, and awesome safehouses. Basically, it's a crime life simulator where you get to reap all of the rewards of the hard work you'll be doing in heists and missions.

In order to fully capitalize on the game's online mechanics, we've come up with a short list of tips and tricks for GTA Online. Following this guide will put you a step ahead of other players online, and help you amass money as quickly as possible.

Be On the Lookout For Dynamic Events and Crate Drops

My absolute favorite thing about GTA Online so far is its suite of dynamic events and Crate Drops. For the newbies, Crate Drops are piles of cash that will sometimes appear out of the ether and land in the city of Los Santos. These crates are essentially free money - all you have to do is stop by and claim it. Of course, that makes them a hotbed of player activity. If you find another player at a Crate Drop, expect them to take you out. If multiple players show up at once, it'll be a Deathmatch in the streets, with the winner taking all.

Other Dynamic Events include Armored Cars, which can be robber for all of their cash, and store heists, which will award everyone in your gang with a bit of cash.

No matter what Dynamic Event you choose to tackle, you'll be rewarded with heaps of cash for pullinjg it off successfully. They'll almost all see you pushing into the heat of combat, though, making the next tip an essential...

Spend Your Early-Game Cash On Upgrading Weaponry

It'll be tempting to go after a sweet ride or some nice clothes when you get that first stack of cash deposited into your bank account. Don't fall for that temptation, though. Instead, you should go out to the nearest Ammunation and throw down your money on some of the game's strongest rifles, shotguns, and pistols, and them deck them out with all of the upgrades.

And hey, it can never hurt to invest in an RPG or two.

With the game's strongest weapons in your pockets, you'll be at an advantage whether you're fighting against AI opponents in a heist or human enemies at a Crate Drop.

Deposit Money Often

Players can kill one another at pretty much any time, and the winner of the duel has access to all of the cash on the loser's person. That means that if you get gunned down with a million bucks in your pocket, that cash now belongs to whoever walks over your corpse next. You don't want to lose any of your hard-earned cash, so get one your phone and deposit everything you're not planning to use immediately after every single heist, Deathmatch, Crate Drop, etc.

You can also use ATMs to deposit your cash, but...

ATMs Make Great Trap Points

If you're looking to kill another player (see the next tip), you could do worse than setting up camp near an ATM. Players can deposit cash from phones or from ATMs. NEVER use an ATM unless for some reason you absolutely have to. Getting an enemy while they're on the way to depositing all of their hard-earned cash is not only a great strategy - it's humiliating and infuriating for them, too.

Become A Bounty Hunter

Players can take out Bounties on one another if, say, one player gets jilted by another. A Bounty is a cash payment offered as a reward for the execution of a rival player. As a third party in this process, it's up to you to seek out Bounties and execute on them. This can be a great source of fast cash, especially if you just happen upon the other player in the open world as the two of you are going about your business.

Best Ways to Kill A Bounty

The best ways to kill a Bounty in GTA Online are the subtle, unexptected ones.

Hop in a fast sports car (you should have one in your garage if you've been following our early advice and amassing cash quickly), and plow the enemy down as they walk. Or, better yet, hop into an airplane and position yourself on a high-up building near one of the enemy's safehouses. Use a sniper rifle to gun them down as they leave their home, and then cash in on the reward. If they're leaving by car, hit them with an RPG instead and they'll have no chance to respond.

The mother of all Bounty kills is for adrenaline junkie players only. Hop into a massive passenger jet, seek out your target below you, and crash it right into them. Airplane roadkill.

Get creative with your kills, and your enemies will never see you coming.
