how do memories work on the sims 3 generations?

They use a form a scrapbook... I'm not too happy with it. Mainly because any time my sim interacts with her husband it gives her the same memory of becoming romantically involved with him. Or if she interacts with one of their children (who are celebrities), then she gets a new memory of becoming friends with a celebrity, despite being friends with them the entire time.

 

I was hoping for memories like in the Sims 2. This is just disappointing/annoying.
