007 Legends Announced For PS3 And 360

Activision has announced a new 007 game based on the super spy's past exploits. The game, called 007 Legends, was announced early this morning. The game will be released later this year, alongside the new 007 film Skyfall, for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

As the title implies, Legends will take players back through the storied history of one James Bond to relive some of the most infamous moments from the films. It won't be just a series of random vignettes, though. The game will have an overarching storyline that will explain why you are revisiting these iconic moments. Activision's press release notes that players will utilize state-of-the-art spy gadgets, an arsenal of weapons... and sleek vehicles," implying that the game will shift between gadget-based puzzle solving, vehicle sequences, and more traditional shooting, just like many of the classic Bond games.

The MI6 Ops missions from last year's Goldeneye Reloaded will make a welcome return in Legends. These missions will present players with a variety of challenges, from using gadgetry to defeat opponents, to sneaking through enemy compounds. Certain missions will even have players stepping into the shoes of classic Bond villains in an attempt to foil the hero.

That's not all, though. Activision also announced that the competitive multiplayer that put Bond games on the map will be returning in even grander form in Legends. The game will support four player splitscreen in a nod to the good days old of Goldeneye 64, but online multiplayer will also be fully supported. The competitive multiplayer will add " new maps, weapons and characters derived from Bond's 50 year legacy," meaning players should have plenty of options.

With an increased focus on gadgets and stealth, a new set of MI6 Ops missions, and a seemingly robust multiplayer suite, 007 Legends looks to be a Bond fan's dream come true. Stay tuned to GameShampoo for the latest developments, and look for Legends to release around the same time as Skyfall.
