Nintendo Switch Update 4.0.0 Brings 3 Important Features

The Nintendo Switch got an update recently, 4.0.0. This brings the Switch 3 very important features: Video recording, System Transfer capability, and a compatibility with the Gamecube Adaptor from the Wii U.

The Video recording is presently compatibility with only 4 games right now: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2. While it does state that the video capture will work for Mario Kart Deluxe, it is going to become available with the upcoming 1.8 update in the near future. It is going to be a little while longer before the feature is unlocked. This feature allows you to capture up to 30 seconds of footage that is then stored in your Gallery. This is triggered by pressing and holding the Capture Button on the Switch's JoyCon. Simply pressing the Capture Button will still take a screenshot. The video capture and screenshots will be saved into the album in chronological order in which they were created. These recordings can be trimmed and editted on the system. These recordings can be uploaded to 2 places: Facebook and Twitter.

The second part, the compatibility with the Gamecube Controller is something that has gotten a lot less publicity. It was something added that does increase play options while the console is docked. To use this feature, you will need the USB adaptor for the Gamecube Controllers that was released along side Super Smash Bros. Connect the adaptor to the console using a USB port, go into the settings menu and press the L + R buttons. Understand that the Gamecube controller does lack a number of buttons that the Switch JoyCons do not have: Z, Home, or Capture. Still, it can be very useful for people who enjoy this controller. It does increase the options available for anyone who wants to play  precision input fighting games on the console, like Pokken Tournament DX.If you need one of these adaptors, Ebay has them for around $12 (plus shipping). They can be found on Amazon for $15+ (many offered with Prime shipping). Some retailers will sell them as well, but it is a rare find. Be sure to also check your local flea markets and swap meetings to try and get a good deal on something like this.

The last part is something that people have wanted, even if it does not completely cover everything that is needed from this sort of function. The Switch now offers profile migration between different systems. This will move everything from one console onto another. In the process, it will delete everything from the source console related to that profile.

A smaller, useful feature, is the addition of "Match Version with Local Users." This is especially useful for people who have multiple profiles on a single console. The feature does exactly what it implies. It will update  the game on everyone's profile to the latest version of it.
