Pokemon Go - Taking on the Legendaries: Suicune, Raikou, Entei, and Mewtwo

Pokemon Go - Taking on the Legendaries: Suicune, Raikou, Entei, and Mewtwo

With the new update, Suicune, Raikou, and Entei have been loosed upon the world. Colloquially called the “Legendary Dogs,” they were introduced into the Pokemon World in the Second Generation. Originally they would roam around the game world once the Pokemon Trainer found them. They would run immediately after they have been encountered. Thankfully, trainers just have to beat them in a Raid Battle opposed to having to suffer them running away repeatedly when you could not get them to fall asleep! The dogs will be rotating between the 3 regions of the world. They will change once a month, rotating to a different region. This helps a lot and makes them very available.

Suicune is a Water-Type. As of September 30th 2017, it was introduced into the Australia and Asia region. Its Fast Attacks are Extrasensory and Hidden Power. Its Charge Attacks are Hydro Pump, Bubble Beam, and Water Pulse. Of its CP, a 100% Suicune is at 1613.

When it comes time to fight Suicune, you want to head in with Grass and Electric type Pokemon. Exeggutor, Zapdos, and many others will work very well against this Pokemon.

Raikou is a Electric-Type. As of September 30th, 2017 it was introduced to the Americas region. It has the Fast Moves of Thunder Shock and Volt Switch. It has the Charge Moves of Thunder, Thunderbolt and Wild Charge. A 100% Raikou will have a CP of 1913.

When it comes to fighting Raikou, you will need Ground type Pokemon. Golem, Rhydon, Marowak, and many others. This will let them inflict heavy damage and resist most of its attacks.

Entei is a Fire-Type. As of September 30th 2017, it was introduced to Europe and Africa. Its Fast Moves are Fire Spin and Fire Fang. Its Charge Moves are Flamethrower, Fire Blast and Overheat. A 100% Entei will have a CP of 1930.

When it comes to fighting Entei, you want Rock, Ground, and Water. This makes Golem and Rhydon very powerful, especially with Rock and ground moves.

Finally, there is Mewtwo. Mewtwo is part of the EX Raids. It will be a big challenge to defeat and capture. It has the Fast Attacks of Confusion and Psycho Cut. It has the Charge Attacks of Psychic, Shadow Ball, Hyper Beam, Focus Blast. A 100% Mewtwo will have a CP of 2275.

When it comes to fighting Mewtwo, you are want will Dark, Bug and Ghost attacks. Tyranitar, Houndoom, Scizor, Gyarados, Pinsir, Gengar and others. Just be very wary of the Focus Blast from Mewtwo against Tyranitar.

The EX Raids have yet to be implemented across the world. So far, they have been introduced in Japan. It is said they will be released in September 6th, 2017. Likely this will be delayed to ensure that it will be implemented properly. It will have its own raid passes.

When it comes to catching these Legendaries, things are bit different from the usual approach with a berry and a curve ball. First, there is Berry Stacking. Taking advantage of the fact the Pinap Berry can last 2 turns, you can add a second berry onto it with a Razz Berry or Golden Razz Berry. These can stack together for a number of throws, but each throw will have to at least connect with the Legendary you are trying to catch. The second change, which can be a bit more difficult is that straight throws are recommended for going after the Legendaries. The curve ball bonus does not seem to stack onto this nearly as much. They still have a low catch rate, so expect to use most of the premuim balls in a catch attempt. There is always the hope of a critical catch at least.
