Multiplayer will be able to be cross platform between the PlayStation 3, PC and Mac only. The Xbox 360 will not have cross platform play.

Get the PC version. It's so much better with KB and mouse.

Just in case you are getting a PS3 version. HA HA

The PS3 version comes with a Steam copy so you can give the Steam copy to a friend and be able to play with each other.

I think you are wrong.

The free Portal 2 with the PS3 version is only accessible through the PS3 Steam account and can't be gifted.

Only the PS3 and PC versions are cross-platform. The 360 copy will only be able to play with other 360 copies.

The PS3 version does in fact come with a PC copy, as well. And it supports cloud-storage so the save games you create on the PS3 are available for use on the PC version, and vice versa.

While both the PS3 and PC support cloud saving, I have heard that those cloud saves won't be cross platform compatible. Which makes sense (games might have incompatible save data due to being on equivalent yet different versions of the game). So you can play on "any PS3" with your save game, but possibly not jumping back between PS3 and PC with one save/play through.  This is a tricky thing to accurately pin down though. Time will tell.
Hmm. Yes, I went back and re-read all the info I had previously seen. It seems they're less than clear about this. They did specifically say that it utilizes Steam's cloud storage, which has me hopeful, but they don't specifically say. I could have sworn I saw them say that you can 'pick up where you left off' in reference to the free PC copy, but you're right.. Only time will tell. We'll know tomorrow I guess!

It will for everyone but 360 users. Poor them. Seriously, though, get it on PC. I feel like it was developed with PCs in mind and then ported to other consoles. Given the iffiness of console internet services, PC is probably the most stable choice.

Portal 2 will have Cross Platform Multiplayer for PC, PS3 and Mac.
