in dragon age 2 why does hawke always say something different then what I choose?

I noticed Hawke always says something different then the dialog option I select?? whats the point of choosing what to say then if he doesnt say it???

What you choose is basically an outline of what tone your character is going to speak in, more easily understandable and accessible language than what his/her real line is.

What you're choosing is a tone, and a summary of what's going to be said.

The icon in the center of the wheel is the tone, and the short description is the summary.
