you can cheat by using the command console, here's a tutorial

or do it legit, there are many tips on this forum: http://futuremark.yougamers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95653

"With that in mind, the easiest start is the "humble trader".

You get a mercury transport and a small argon ship for courier work, defence etc.

I started with the trader game, and after about a month, playing for 4-5 hours every night, I've got about 20 million credits.

I've now got 3 mercury's and a couple of M3 fighters.

If you can start as trader, get yourself down to "ore belt" (head down from argon prime), you can trade ore and energy cells here for ages and build up a few million in no time at all. "

Why thank you, good sir. I will start immediately. (the legit way, although if I get bored I may have to supplement it with a few cheats :P )

if your more of a fighter this is how i made my money.

i started as the argon patriot, as you go through the very first quests it will not be long until you get the "avoid the fight and follow the non xenon fighter to its base and scan it" quest. its time to be a rebel, ignore the non xenon fighter and engage the 4 xenon L's. you will either kill them all and get some fighter pilot rank or they will "abandon ship" or stop working. These are worth over 600k each. and they are better then your starter ship. so you get a new ship and wait for the quest to reset, respawning the 4 L's.

rinse and repeat. until i got my heavy dragon, pilots ejecting was my number 1 biggest income. oh, and NEVER pay for repairs, go somewhere you feel safe and do it manually. i get in my suit and use the repair laser. my bore fire is also set to enter on the numpad so i use a clamp to hold it down and go do some pushups or something while i save thousands.14 days later i have an orca, heavy dragon,dragon,7 fighters (sadly only 2 bloodclaws) and a murc super XL. GL guys!
