terraria can you get rid of dirt background?

yes with a hammer but you must start from where the background changes to sky and make a line to the area u want to remove, you can re make the background to fill it back in if you want or start underground by using TNT to start removing the background also lower down where the background looks to have stones in it, this can not be removed
