how do you get food in Sims Medieval?

in The Sims Medieval my monarch is getting hungry but I can't figure out how to eat food? I bought an apple in the village shoppe but not able to eat it

Go to the castle and go upstairs to cook at the fireplace.

I tried that and my sim just stomps her feet and gets angry and doesn't eat! She is very hungry and she won't make anything. I have got tons of fish, and can't et her to make anything
