terraria best way to place items around the house?

theres not really a correct answer here,

usually i have first layer ground level, with chests and anvil, furnace etc and a few laters coming down for npcs

 

theres not really a best way, its what you are happy with, though most servers ive been on have a storage area, crafting area and an npc area
