I'm not sure about the easiest, but personally mages are the most fun and have the most options in battle. they can heal, damage, and support. rogues are good but they're fragile, they're also the only class that can pick locks. warriors big damage dealers and are mainly for tanking in a party.

2H Warrior, no question.  They will do the highest amount of damage on top of having the highest survivability.  Their durability (when properly spec'd) removes the need from having a dedicated tank.  Along with proper tactics for your NPC characters you can go through Nightmare tanking on a 2H Warrior.

Their damage is absolutely absurd, as well.  Most of their abilities hit multiple targets, including their auto-attack.

The other classes have their benefits but there is a very strong Rogue character (Varric) and two strong mages already available to you.

A great 2H warrior guide: http://social.bioware.com/forum/Dragon-Age-II/Dragon-Age-II-Characters-Classes-and-Builds-Spoilers/The-Ultimate-Vanguard-Nightmare-Warrior-Domination---6396096-1.html

Warrior with sword/shield was really easy, lots of knockbacks and stuns to do crowd control, lots of AoE type damage, good survivability, and damage output was pretty high.

The easiest spec to play is straight up damage mage.

Fill out the Elemental and Primal trees and you'll be golden. You just cycle your spells, manually aiming AoEs. Simple and deadly.

If you want to change things up a bit, you can play with Blood Mage or Force Mage specialization.
