All NPC's want a room before they move in. The guide does not require one, but he will use the first you make.

A room is 1 door, 1 light, 1 table (not crafting table), 1 chair, walls and ceiling. Make sure to NOT use dirt. And they require it to be big. What I use (because I know it works) is 7 tiles high and 16 long.

The NPC's also need you to do the following.

Guide - With you from the beginning

Nurse - After you find a max hp upgrade (a heart you get in your inventory)

Merchant - After you have 50 silver coins

Arms dealer - After you find a gun

Dryad - After you kill a boss

Demolitionist - After you find a bomb
