you dont, just level them up when you find their corrosponding upgrades.

You can't change it like you could in the first one. There are upgrades that can be bought at shops that will upgrade the armor of specific characters, but it wont look different. The only way it will look different is after you finish a romance line with someone - then they have different clothes.

The equipment for companions is mostly automated. You are allowed to choose the accessories and weapons, however the actual armor itself will be upgraded at the beginning of each chapter.

You can, however, purchase armor upgrades for your companions. These do things like increase stamina, and attack.

You can't really change their armors. Bioware made it so you only buy upgrades, so they retain their original look all the time. Boring!
