Normally a sapling requires 30 minutes to grow, however you may fertilize it using Bone Meal. This will cause the sapling to grow into a tree instantaniously, assuming it has light and space.

It the time it takes is variable. It can be anywhere from half a minecraft day to 3 minecraft days. Alternatively, you can use bonemeal (gotten from bones) on sapling to make it grow immediatly.
