TF2-How do I surf on surf servers?

Question

I have been playing TF2 for a while now, jumping into surf servers every once in a while, but i never knew how to surf! I asked people, and they said you need to be P2P (which makes no sense), but i have P2P for a while (not just to surf) and i still can't surf!
