Well there's a lot more content in Portal 2 than portal 1, more maps, more music and dialogue, more objects, better textures, etc. So it's to be expected that Portal 2 would require more diskspace.

As in all recent games, the space is required for the massive content within it.

Portal 2 is no exception.

The content of Portal 2 has been estimated by some as being 4 or 5 times larger than that of the original Portal. Furthermore, due to the evolving state of the Aperture Laborities throughout Portal 2 (starting off broken, eventually getting fixed but then broken up again) there are a LOT more objects and textures to include than the previous Portal where there were just one set of objects and textures.

Most of the space is from the textures in the game. Since Aperture Science is broken up, the panels are are all out of place. Most of them is for the scripts and textures of the panels being put back in its place.

there are a lot of texture, scripts and contents and features which makes it take up so much space, the new games that come out are generally taking more and more space
