which of these options will get me running skyrim the soonest

buying on steam then preloading

or

ordering at gamestop and attending a midnight release?

The pre-load. That way, when the clock hits midnight, while some will be at line at gamestop awaiting purchase, you will already have the game pre-loaded and ready to go and will be able to play directly at midnight.

it also depends on your connection speed and on how many people are preloading in same time though. If too may people are doing preload and steam servers go down or you either cant connect to the servers or its downloading very slow then a midnight release would be faster

personally id say gamestop at midnight, valve is well known for doing things late, yes tis includes unlocking the preloaded files which ive seen about 12 hours late

its got steamworks DRM so if steam goes down u cant play whatever happens if its like deus-EX HR but steam will be fastest if u can preload
