Microsoft's Head of PC Development Abandons Ship After Just 6 Months

Microsoft has confirmed the departure of Jason Holtman, head of PC games development who was hired about six months ago to make Windows a better platform for PC gaming.

"We can confirm that Jason has left Microsoft and we're grateful for his time at the company," a Microsoft representative told Gamasutra. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Microsoft originally hired Holtman for the specific purpose of improving Windows as a platform for PC gamers. "I will be focusing on making Windows a great platfform for gaming and interactive entertainment," he had told the public when he was hired.

With Microsoft's recent insistance that they would be taking PC gaming more seriously, this news comes as cnotradiction to that fact. Reasons were not given for Holtman's departure, but it's safe to say that Microsoft's PC initiatives have been muddled for a long time now. Recently it was announced that Games for Windows Live would be shutting down, and that many of the games that relied on its servers would be left in the dark.
