It's a hard decision between Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 for me, Half-Life 1 introduced a lot of innovations and immersion methods never seen before in video games including scripted events and a protaganist that is directly influenced by the player. Not only that but on how cutscenes are directly seen in gameplay by the player, and the shooting mechanics for its time was amazing as well, and has aged well thus is still enjoyable by today's standard.

Half-Life 2 is definitely a ground breaking game during its time with a lot of advancedment in graphics and physics. The introduction of the Source engine's capabilities proved to be not only as eye candy and physics machine, but as a open very easy to mod engine making it possible for fan-made mods and maps. Along with the gravity gun, being one hell of an awesome weapon both fun and effective.

Overall I think Half-Life 2 amazed me the most when it first came out and exceeded my experience of Half-Life the first time by a thin margin.

i personally like half life 2 the best. though i love the story in one i think 2 had really great graphics especially for when it came out. and i really like the story, just about as much as in the first. not to mention the gadgets and such, i love a game with science in it!

I greatly prefered Half Life 2, but I understand all the innovation and concepts that the first episode introduced. However, the dazzling physics and engine for Half Life 2 blew me away, and I can still feel my excitement when I first played the game.

I agree, Half Life 2, especially episode 2 is great.  The story, atmosphere, gameplay, all of it is of the best quality

Half-Life 1, definitely. I liked Half-Life 2, too, but the first one had something that the second didn't, I couldn't tell, what. Yes, the second one's got the gravity gun, and vehicles, and really a lot of new things, with a good story, but the first one had a different feeling, so I think the first one was better.

This is a pretty hard question but I will have to say Half Life one as well. Half Life 2 is amazing in every way but Half Life one is I can't really say how but better.

This is of course a matter of opinion, however a popular opinion would be Half-Life 2. The "episodes" of it could be considered part of it, however the most popular game in the series is most likely Half-Life 2 itself as it set the stage for the episodes.

Altough Half-Life 2 has good graphics and is much more exciting, I think Half-Life 1 was best in Decay Mode because it was fun to kick monsters asses with my friend and the puzzles were so epic like Intensity. (Decay Mode)
