You would need 2 different copies and 2 different accounts in order to play coop. If steam would have made it possible to play coop on different computers with only one copy they wouldn't have sold as much.

I am sorry, it does not work. If you want to play together in split screen, you need a console version.

You can, but it requires circumventing steam.

1. Start Portal 2 on both computers with steam in offline mode

2. Enable the console

3. Type 'sv_lan 1' into the console

4. Have one person host the game

5. Have the other person connect from the console by typeing 'connect <local-ip>'

You may or may not have to have steam in online mode for the person hosting the server. Good Luck!
