5 block high cobblestone or obsidian wall around base with overhang on top.Light inside of " yard" very well. I would also suggest having a locking iron door. I also have a secondary base, about 40,000 blocks away accesible by a very fast underground minecart system. In addition to that both bases have an obsidian panic room, with 2 sets of locking doors, both have multiple auto destruct buttons. There is one for: land inside wall, land outside wall, main base, minecart system, secondary base, mineshaft, and I have a levar that will destroy all my creations, in case of zombocolypse. also, do not use wood for many reasons, period.
