who is the easiest companion to become rival with in dragon age II?

I'd say Merrill. Don't give her the mirror fragment and she goes apesh*t. I got (Rivalry +95) ! for that action alone, and another 25 for refusing again in her house.

She gets spiffy white armor and I still got to romance her afterwords. Result !

Ummm...I'd have to say Merrill.  There are a couple time during the game when a couple of your actions count for a large amount of rivarly points.  If you don't give her the mirror fragment you gain 95 rivalry points, and if you refuse another time in her house that is 25 rivalry points.

Anders is another easy companion to become a rival.

Basic rule of thumb is to side against mages or act aggressive anytime a scenerio involves them or anders.  I did this and was Rival pretty quickly.

 

Plus, unless you're a mage yourself, Anders is one of the better healers and is a good choice to be a regular party member for most of the game.
