In order to make Iron blocks, you must place 9 Iron Ingots in a workbench, one per slot.

This will output a single iron block. This is really purely for storange of iron ingots. If you place the Iron block in your crafting window, it will allow you to take the 9 ingots used back.

To make iron blocks, combine 9 iron bars inside of a crafting table. You can then put the blocks inside of the crafting table to get the bars back.
