sims medieval eat food in inventory apple

My sim is hungry and about to die and so I went to village shoppe and bought him an apple and I click on it but he refuses to eat it HELP

Unfortunetly, you can´t eat the apple just like this. But you can cook for yourself, if you don´t have nothing in ypur inventar! Flat bread or gruel. It´s not tasty but your sim won´t die.
