There are essentially three ways. Since Portal 2 is a steamworks title you must play it via Steam. Which means you can use the f12 key and once you exit the game, Steam will upload the screenshot for you.

 

The other way is to use printscreen and then copy and paste the picture into a fil in MSPaint, GIMP or Adobe Photoshop.

 

The third way is to use third party software like X-Fire, FRAPS etc... and then you can set your own keys for screen caps. I use one of my eight mouse buttons for screen caps in xfire. Works like a charm.
