Some silly marketing gimmick to increase the hype by 10 folds.

ITS NOT A GIMMICK!! it is valve's type of cleverness which is trying to excite people about the release of Portal 2 ( me included! )

basically, the more people who play the Potato Sack games, the quicker Portal 2 will release, which is why they hint at GLaDOS waking up (ie: the Portal 2 Aperture Science testing will commence <3)

The Wonderful end of the world is already maxed out.

So go play other games to speed things up.

remember the potato clocks from back in the day. everyone is collecting potatoes to provide enough power to boot up glados and release the game early.

It's just a promo. "CPUs" just refers to the number of computers currently running a potato sack game. Valve is trying to encourage people to buy one or more of these games to boost sales and bring attention to some very overlooked but very worthy titles.

It's pretty simple. The more people that play the potato sack games, the faster the bars of each game fill. When a bar is filled entirely, the counter skips 30 minutes or so. That means you are helping to release portal 2 earlier. You need to have the game running in order to count as a "current cpu".

Playing Potato sack games will boost the reboot process and therby releasing portal 2 before the original release date. For more chart and tracking,

It's a promotional gimmick... it's not going to do anything to your computer, don't worry.
