You need a Premium TF2 account to play on this server?

HELP

when i try to join server on team fortress 2 i get

"You need a Premium TF2 account to play on this server"

but I though TF 2 was free? why is it telling me i need premium account if its f2p

how do i fix this

please help i really wanna play free team fortress 2!

Pay $5 into your Valve wallet and become a premium player?  Read the FAQ?  Figure out why 85% of the server admins do not like/want fr00bs?

There's a custom script that will disallow F2P players to access servers that have it enabled. It is not Valve-approved or Valve-endorsed. Just add those servers to your blacklist and try another one.
