Terran for balance, Zerg for speed and Protoss for Power is a very general explanation.

well if you're following who's winning the most in tournaments right now it's protoss. there is no real best race though, blizzard wouldn't balance their game like that. if you're wondering which race to play maybe you should just go random for a while and see which one feels the best to you.

Typically every race has pros and cons. It's up to you how to utilize them.

There is no best race. They all tend to counter each other and balance equally. That's what makes Starcraft such a good game - balance, balance and balance.

If there was a best race to choose, everyone would choose it and the game would no longer be any fun. Blizzard has balanced the races as best as they could and the point of the game is to find out your opponent's tactics and find out how to exploit it to your advantage. For example, if you see that your  Protoss opponent has a Dark Shrine, you should try to negate the effects of their Dark Templars using either Scans or Overseers, etc.

Best starting race is Terran.

Zerg is for quantity and rushing.

Protoss is for powerful, but expensive units, and likely quite a bit of micro to keep them alive.

There is no 'best' race in starcraft 2. You could problably rate them based on some quality like awesomeness and get an answer (zerg), but really there what race you play is matter of opinion (zerg).

There is no best race - although at the very top levels of play people argue that Protoss is strongest currently.

If you're picking a race for yourself though, your best race will the one that suits your play style.

I'd personally try each of the three races and see which one suits you best!

For a new player I always recommend Terran. The single player campaign is Terran and the Terran race itself is very strong.

There really is no "best" race, they are just played differently.

Zerg for masses of cheap units who win by overrunning an enemy.

Protoss for fewer, more expensive and powerful units that win by sheer strength.

Terran for a little of both.

I think Terran is the best starting out. Massing Thors and Rines with Medvacs is a pretty good combo in the lower leagues. Once you progress through and get to gold and above, Toss seems to be the dominant race among people that really know how to play them.

 There is no best race. However, most beginners start with Terran since they're familiar with the race due to the single-player. Probably the easiest race to play is Protoss, since you can literally 4-gate every game and have a good chance of winning. Zerg is by-far the hardest race due to all the extra mechanics involved (injecting, scouting with overlords, spreading creep tumors) as well as needing the gamesense of when to make drones and when to make units.

All races are good; it depends on the player. In my experience, Zerg and Protoss are easier to macro than Terran.
