There is no actual way to 'pick up' a monster spawner in Minecraft.

The only way to add a spawner into your inventory is through Minecraft editing programs. MCEdit seems to be the easiest way to add spawners to your inventory and configure them.

In minecraft, you cant move the block about, you can dissable it by putting torches around the base of the spawner, or destory it by mining it, but you cannont have a spawner in your inventory, without using a Inventory editing program.

If you want to farm monsters with the monster spawner, you're going to have to create your trap AROUND it. Destroying them is highly not recommended since you can create a drowning trap for the monsters, and collect a lot of valuable loot.

As of 1.2.5, it is possible to aquire a mob spawner in creative. You need to click the spawner with Mouse Button 3, or whatever you have your Pick Block assigned to. It will be a Pig spawner though, because it loses it's Damage Value.

Hey!

I am not 100% on this, but I would imagine that you could just mine it with a pickaxe... with the 'Silk Touch' enchantment.

Nope sorry. Unfortunately this does not work. I wasted the first one I found by trying to mine it with silktouch. Your best bet is just build a trap around it where it sits. Or use mods of course..

first you have to get winrar, 7zip, or windzip. next, click on your start button then select run, then type in %appdata% click ok, click on your minecraft folder, go into your bin, then right click your minecraft.jar or minecraft and open it with winrar, then delete the META-INF folder, then download single player commands or a mob spawner mod then right click that and open that with winrar, then drag all class files into your minecraft.jar, play minecraft and then use your mod to give or craft yourself a mob spawner. if you don't use mods then you can hold mob spawners.

now it's possible ofcourse since there is an enchantment of "silk touch" it's the only way with that enchantment on a pickaxe...

Not sure that works -- there are some blocks that Silk Touch doesn't work on, and also, even if that works and you get the spawner into your inventory, placing it may not result in a spawner that spawns anything -- or that (according to the Minecraft Wiki) spawns pigs.  Who knows, and 1.3 may bring different behavior.  But just remember that if you successfully destroy a spawner, it may be finished as far as being able to spawn zombies/skeletons/whatever hostile mobs you want for it to spawn.  And they are, of course, extremely rare, so destroy with care!
