It could be beacause: Your graphics level is too high, you bandwith is too low, you have too many people on your server, you have non-hostile mobs, you have hostile mobs, you have too many programs running on your computer, you haven't got the enough memory on your computer

Running a computer program is sort of like running water down a pipe. The amound of water that you can run through the pipe is limited by the smallest piece. So your server is limited by some part of your computer and that causes lag. The cause could be anything from RAM, CPU power, Internet Connection, Harddisk, ect. To find out what is making your server lag, you have to narrow down which is the point that is being tasked to it's maximum ability and either upgrade that piece or have less people log into your server.

You need to give the server enough ram and you're internet speed has to be fast enough. test internet speed http://adf.ly/3uVqO and http://adf.ly/3uYG0
