The Jedi Consular has a quest during which you must get a lightsaber crystal.  Once you get it, you will have a battle with a very difficult elite mob.  Best tactic is to stand back and use your ranged attacks as much and as fast as possible while Qyzen Fess does the up-close-and-personal stuff.  The Jedi Knights do not do this mission.  They are given everything they need for their lightsaber by their Master.  Once acquired, take the crystal and the First Blade lightsaber to the Forge and you will receive your first lightsaber.
