terraria whats better iron helmet or miner's helmet?

Iron helmet gives you two defence and miner's helmet only gives you one, but the miner's helmet provides a very convenient source of light. I'd say if you need to light up the area around you, miner's helmet, but if you just want more armor, iron helmet.
