The Hopeful Orphan Trait allows the Sim to Ask About Parents with other Sims, as well as Tell Life Story and Tell About Parents.  Eventually, asking other Sims about their parents causes that Sim to give you a letter supposedly from your Sim's parents which gives a +30 Focus buff for 12 hours when read.
