Bones can be used to craft Bonemeal. Put bones in the crafting menu to turn 1 bone into 3 bonemeal.

When bonemeal is used on crops or saplings, it will automatically mature them, so crops will automatically be ready to harvest and trees will automatically grow.

Other than crafting bonemeal, bones can also be used to tame wild wolves in a recent update. Just click on the wolf with your bones until hearts appear, then it will be your pet and follow you wherever you go.

Bones can be converted into Bonemeal, which you use to right click on any crop/tree to make it grow faster. More info can be found here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Bonemeal

You can use them to make bone meal to make plants mature instantly

or use bone meal with wool to make wool white again. Either way, you have to use bone meal in order for it to have a function.

The best use of bones, in my opinion, is taming wild wolves. Who doesn't want adorable dogs following them around?

if you collect enough of them you can use them raw on wild wolves to tame them by right clicking them with bones in your hand. you may also craft them into bonemeal which can be used on colored wool to make it white as well as mixing it with several types of dye to make light versions of them. you can also use bonemeal on ungrown trees to make them instantly grow into trees.

You can make bonemeal out of em, and sprinkle it on your crops to fertalize it, OR you can use the bone itself to tame wild wolves.

Protip : Hold shift to sneak. It'll keep you from falling off edges and smashing your crops when you're walking ontop of them.

You can use bones to tame wolves. You feed the bones to the wolves until hearts come out. Or you can grind up the bones into bnoemeal which can then be used to make saplings or wheat grow instantly.
