skyrim can I change the race of my character after starting the game?

is there a way to change the race of my character AFTER having started the game and advanced through first quest?

On the PC, you can enter ShowRaceMenu into the console (~ or ` key) and change everything about your character's appearance. This does funny things with your stats, I've found- I'm not too happy about that, but there is your answer. Perhaps someone will give us a way to avoid any funny consequences.

 

Oh, and remember to remove your helmet.
